Hoofin' It in Charleston for a Great Cause

The student party is not just for students; it's actually AHP's way to celebrate our student members, past, present and future. And it's always a fun themed event sponsored by Zoetis. The 2014 Student Party is going to be swell and you shouldn't miss "HOOFIN' IT" on Friday night. The Francis Marion Hotel opened in 1924 and it's a perfect venue for a Roaring 20's party.The famous 1920s dance craze, the Charleston, began in the dance halls of this city and not only swept the nation, but also defined an era.

AHP Student Award finalists, Rebekah Savage, Lindsay Paulsen, and Catie Staszak, will be eagerly waiting on the announcement of the 2014 Student Award winner where cash prizes of $1,750 sponsored by AIM Equine Network will be awarded to all three students. The Student Award winner will also receive an all expense trip to Louisville, KY from Publishers Press to attend their educational conference.

If you are packing for Charleston, I hope there are some feathers and beads in your suitcase if you are a female, or suspenders and a bow tie if your are male. More serious fans of the 1920's will have flapper dresses or pin striped suits in their luggage. While themed attire is never required, it does help to accentuate the Great Gatsby era.

So what can you expect on Friday night?

Keeping with the theme, we will have music popular in the Roaring 20s, several fun food options that can be a light supper or and before dinner snack, and lots of hootch sponsored by sponsors AQHA Publications and SUCCEED. There will be a dance contest for solos and couples who want to Charleston in Charleston and vie for the coveted AHP Hoofer Award.

The most important reason to attend is to support the AHP Student Fund. The silent auction has a wide variety of great equine related items provided by AHP members and friends. Bidding will open at 10:30 a.m. and close at 6:15 p.m. during the Student Party.

Attendees can buy raffle tickets at $1 each for a chance to win a free registration to the 2015 AHP seminar in San Antonio or purchase a ticket for $10 to try our signature drink, The Bees Knees, a concoction of prohibition gin with a honey and lemon twist.

Raffle and The Bees Knees tickets may be paid by cash or check. If you buy any auction items, you will need to see the "bookie" in the Speakeasy at the end of the evening. Please be prepared to pay by cash, check or credit card and bring your card with you so we can swipe it.

Join us for a fun evening that will end early enough to take the party into the streets of Charleston and help AHP continue to provide students with an opportunity to be a part of the equine publishing industry.
